I don't think God wants to be worshiped. I think the only pure worship of God is by loving one another, and I think all other forms of worship became a substitute for the love that we should show one another.

About This Quote

Mahatma Gandhi said, “I don't think God wants to be worshiped. I think the only pure worship of God is by loving one another, and I think all other forms of worship became a substitute for the love that we should show one another.” He was speaking about how religion causes people to turn to God but based on their own ideas of how God should be worshipped. Jesus said in John 4:24, “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Jesus was saying that you must worship God in spirit and truth. For instance, if you are trying to get someone to come to church then you are not worshipping God in spirit and truth because you are asking them to do something that does not fit their idea of what God should be like.
